Breath therapy/breath work

Our feelings and thoughts and also our physical condition have a strong impact on our breathing. The quality of our breathing reacts sensitively to everything that is going on in our lives. Conversely, the way we breathe can have a positive effect on our feelings, our thoughts, and our body.

The main focus of breath therapy/breath work is to become more conscious of our breathing and thereby return it to its natural rhythm. This helps calm the mind and relax the body as breathing blockages are loosened, and breath can flow more freely and deeply throughout the body. The more deeply and naturally we learn to breathe, the better capable we are of dealing with the stresses and demands placed upon our bodies and minds. Breath therapy/breath work contributes to an overall sense of wellbeing.

For those who are seriously ill and/or dying, palliative breath therapy can offer wonderful relief and comfort. As a specialized form of the more classic breath therapy/breath work, it is meant to provide a calm, nurturing experience to help relieve pain, suffering, and fear. Patients react very positively to the kind of focused attention they receive through the gentle guidance of breath work.
